I’m developing a rotary tool for use on string-instruments, like violin, cello, harp, harpsichord or monochord.
The goal is to have a sort of drill, silent, rotating at various speeds, with exchangable tool inserts: a nylon wire, filt, metal, rubber, wood. It’s important the tool can be used with great finesse and agility, like a violinist playing his bow.
Half of august, musicians of the Maarten Altena Ensemble, will experiment with it, hopefully finding original sounds. If succesful, it will be part of new compositions by Martijn Padding. Take a look at the video, to see the score at the moment.
